FAQs for Schools

    • Read the most frequently asked questions by schools. Do you still have a burning question not listed below?  Contact us.

    • How do I claim a free teacher?

We are endorsed by the Department for Education (DfE), to supply overseas teachers of Maths, Science Computer Science and MFL (Modern Foreign Language) to schools throughout England.

    • What are your fees?

Point to Point have a set fee structure and this varies depending on how you appoint staff, whether it be on a permanent contract or on an agreed daily pay rate. Many client schools benefit from discounted fees when they interview and appoint multiple teachers throughout an academic year. Contact us to request our fee structure.

    • How can I have confidence interviewing digitally, when I can’t observe them in the classroom?

We believe Point to Point’s 30-day free replacement guarantee is superior to a one-off trial lesson. The guarantee gives school leaders the benefit of observing teachers over a period of time as well as to observe initial educational outcomes and student/staff response. Some schools also like to initially offer a per Term contract on a daily pay rate, with the intention of converting them onto a school contract, once they are established.

    • How do visas work for overseas teachers?

Teachers from New Zealand, Australia and Canada can apply for the two year Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa if they are under the age of 31. Many teachers have UK Ancestry or British Passports which they can access to live and work in England.

Many schools hold work permit licenses and can offer sponsorship to teachers, particularly those that teach Maths and Science, provided the school can prove that they have advertised the vacancy and have been unsuccessful in appointing locally. We are finding more and more Primary Teachers and other Secondary subjects being offered work permits as well.

    • How do overseas qualifications compare?

A teacher trained in New Zealand, Australia or Canada is classified as an OTT (Overseas Trained Teacher).  Should the teacher be fully registered in their own country, they can apply for their QTS and be awarded this before arriving in England. Some teachers venture to England straight after completing their University Degree and are provisionally registered. These teachers are classified as UQ Teachers and they can work for up to 4 years without QTS.

Teachers that hold UK Ancestry or a British passport often would like to know their new school can offer the ability to complete their QTS in the UK via the Assessment Only Route or through schools direct.

    • How do you complete your compliance checks?

All teachers that work with Point to Point are pre-vetted and interviewed thoroughly by a member of our experienced recruitment team.  Your school will be provided with all of the necessary documents prior to a teacher starting a contract in your school (CV, verified references, visa, passport, proof of address, proof of identity, qualifications, overseas police checks and CRD/DBS).  All documents will be official and certified. Our registration procedure also includes medical and criminal declarations so you can be sure we have all of the necessary information to provide to you.

    • What are the different ways to interview?

Digital Interview: ZOOM, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype are all common platforms for Headteacher’s to interview our teachers from around the world. We will set up the time and date for you. Let us coordinate the digital interview.

Multiple Vacancies: Interview between 5-25 teachers back to back, over a couple of days over ZOOM or Skype. This timetable below was created for a Trust in Essex, who have successfully recruited multiple teachers to start in the new academic year.

    • How do I get involved in an overseas teacher recruitment trip?

Need to recruit 10+ teachers? Fly out and meet us in either Australia, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, or the USA to interview up to 25 teachers face to face. Flights, accommodation and airport pickups covered.

    • Where do you recruit teachers from?

We jump on a plane or a video call to meet teachers and have a (virtual or face to face) coffee, interview them and filter the outstanding ones through to interview stage with appropriate schools.

We recruit teachers from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain and USA.
